Wellio is a student wellbeing platform for K-12 schools, built on lessons written by psychologists and teachers.

Founded in Australia, the platform runs in over 800 schools across Australia, the UK, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, with more than 600 curriculum-aligned lessons across two products.

When their Head of Growth, (previously head of growth at Canva), approached us, it was to pair his growth strategy with our design expertise. The messaging of the website lacked clarity in explaining what the platform actually did and why it mattered to schools. Combined to this, a glitchy contact page meant schools trying to reach the team often did not get through.

We started as a four-week design and development project, that became an ongoing partnership across three phases.

Instead of writing to schools as one audience, we built the site around the three people who make the decision: teachers who need lessons that run with no preparation, heads of wellbeing who need a complete system without internal development, and principals who need data that holds up in government assessment. The build was desktop first, against the convention, because the data showed teachers browsing at work almost entirely on desktop.

The same standard carried into everything added since. UK localisation written in the language of that curriculum, webinars and events moved off third-party platforms onto their own site, programmatic SEO in the backend.

From a website schools could not get through to 99,000 unique visitors in four months, all organic. From an average session of 1 minute 23 to 5 minutes 47.
